USW1World Wales Weekend Volunteering Project

Did you know that through the USW1World Project you can access a full scholarship to take part in a Wales Weekend Volunteering Project?

The USW1World Team is pleased to be able to offer students exciting opportunities under a new volunteering and employability project as part of the wider USW1World philosophy. This project is intended to help students access voluntary projects and also to be a great opportunity to be actively involved in the local community. All students, home or international, are encouraged to apply.

To keep in touch with opportunities as they come up, please join the USW1World Facebook Group

Volunteering in Wales

Volunteering during your studies is an excellent way to meet friends and gain new skills which will enhance your employability after leaving university. The USW1World Team has linked up with the charitable organisation UNA Exchange to give students the fantastic opportunity to volunteer in weekend projects across Wales.

The USW1World Team have already successfully sent several groups of volunteers on weekend projects run by UNA exchange and you can read the returners reports from Simon , Martha, Yan and Ilze

How do I get involved?

Projects are ongoing throughout the year and will be posted here as they become available, so make sure you check back regularly. We are currently updating our projects list, but you can email for further information and to register your interest.

Remember taking part in voluntary work is not only a great way to give something back to the local community, but it’s a great way to enhance your CV and employability once you have graduated.

How much will it cost?

The good news is that if you are sucesssful in being chosen for one of the Wales Weekend Volunteering Projects the USW1World Team will award you a full scholarship. This will cover the project costs, your food and basic accommodation. You will just have to pay for your travel costs to and from the project. UNA are careful to make sure that all the projects can be easily accessed by train and a train station is usually the designated meeting point. Please make sure that you check the costs of the train ticket, and are happy to pay this, before applying for a project. Other projects that do not fall under the weekend volunteering remit may also hold scholarships. Please contact the email below for further details.

So that you do not incur additional costs, the USW1World Team have purchased two high quality sleeping bags that can be borrowed for the duration of the project. If you borrow one of these, you will be expected to wash it before returning.

Where else can I find further information on volunteering?

UNA also offers longer volunteering projects across the UK, Europe and rest of the world, so if you’re looking for something to do one weekend or over your summer break, have a look at the UNA website or come to the International Zone in E001 where you can pick up one of their brochures.

There are volunteering leaflets and broachers in the International Zone in E001, but also the companies below will be more than able to help you:

Voluntary Community Service – This lists all the different types of voluntary work that is available in the Cardiff area and you can select your day and time preferences.

WCVA – Here you will find volunteering opportunities online.
